This post contains favorite toys for babies. Babies probably won’t start to use this stuff until the later part of this age range. But these are items that are safe for us to have around until the “playing” begins. All of the toys are non-toxic per the manufacturer, which is important at this age when babies mouth everything. Ultimately these are toys that I feel I can buy my kids without breaking the bank, and keep them safe and happy at the same time.
Haba Clutching Toys - ($5-13) These classic wooden toys are so smooth and safe for babies. They have non-toxic finishes, fun bright colors and some of them make soft little noises. My mom friends (and I) who worry about lead in toys and chemicals in plastics feel great about giving our babies these little toys. Most importantly both of my kids loved these. Made in Germany.
Kathy Kruse Poupsi Doll - ($20) A German mother started this company over 100 years ago when she couldn’t find dolls that were soft enough for her own children. They are handmade and machine washable. My daughter loves this one with the teether attached. All materials are Okeo-tex compliant. Made in Germany.
Usborne “That’s Not My…” Books – ($8) It is never too early for books! I used to go to “Book Babies” at the library each week, and these books were the favorite among the 6+ month olds. They are touch and feel books with very durable cardboard pages that hold up very very well. My son loved That’s Not My Train, and my daughter starts hyperventilating with excitement when you bring out That’s Not My Dragon. Any in this “That’s Not My…” series are great.
Note: Stay tuned for future posts containing great gifts for 1, 2 and 3 year olds… and favorite things for toddlers and preschoolers. In the meantime check out my favorite web sites for non-toxic high-quality toys. I have ordered from each of these web sites before without any issues.
