In response to feedback to my previous post, here are some more of my favorite “green” products. I personally like them, because they cost less than (or the same as) whatever I was using before AND they work better. The reason these products are green has to do with the manufacturing process and/or how the product affects the environment once it goes down the drain. At least that is my understanding of it. Some say they are also safer for you!
SHAMPOO – Jason Natural Jojoba Shampoo & Conditioner ($7 for 16 Oz.)
For the money this is by far the best shampoo I’ve ever used. I am kind of embarrassed to say that I used to spend $40/bottle of shampoo at my old salon (ha – that was before kids)… and anyway I like this shampoo better. It makes your hair look thicker at the roots, gives it a nice texture, never dries it out, etc. You have to follow the bottle’s instructions though and wash your hair with it twice. You can find it at natural markets like Vitamin Cottage and Whole Foods. Jason makes a lot of different shampoos, and I always get this Jojoba one.
LOTION – Alba Botanical Very Emollient Body Lotion – Unscented ($10 for 12 oz)
I have dry sensitive skin, and I live in a dry arid climate. I don’t like greasy lotions or the kind that feel like they just sit on top of your skin. I love this lotion. I literally buy this buy the gallon (seriously, it comes in a 1 gallon jug). If you like scented lotions, the scented version actually smells pretty good – like cucumber and green tea. I always buy the unscented version, because I don’t like scents.
DEODORANT — Crystal Aluminum-Free Deodorant
Did you know that the aluminum in deodorant is what causes the discoloration you may see in the arm pits of your white t-shirts? As soon as I figured that out, I switched to an aluminum-free deodorant. TMI? Oh yeah, and it’s “green”! If you tend to sweat a lot, you may not want to use this product, because you will continue to sweat a lot.
TOOTHPASTE — Tom’s Natural Whitening Toothpaste
This toothpaste whitens your teeth really well. I like it better than regular toothpaste. It does cost a dollar more than what I was buying before, but the whitening feature really works.
CLEANING PRODUCTS – Seventh Generation Cleaning Products ($4 to $5)
There is really nothing exciting to say about cleaning products. I was looking for something non-toxic that I could use around my kids, and these really work well. I’m kinda surprised they cost the same as products like fantastic and windex or whatever. Target’s “Method” brand is also pretty good, if you can’t find these products near you. Here are the ones that I’ve tried and like:

I also like the Seventh Generation Carpet Cleaner, but I couldn’t find it online right now. Ha – we use the carpet cleaner a lot unfortunately. It is made from citrus fruits.
